Homemade Watercolors

After watching a video that was posted to FaceBook about DIY Watercolors I really wanted to try it. Usually I don't try or it doesn't work out like it should. But i'm excited to say that I did and it worked out great...

Here is what you will need:

  • 1 Cup-Baking Soda
  • 3/4 Cup- Vinegar
  • 2 TBSP- Corn Syrup
  • 1 Cup- Corn Starch
  • Food Coloring
  • Ice Tray
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Mixing Spoon
  • Toothpicks

Then just watch this video and do what they do! http://skl.sh/diy-watercolor-tutorial

Keep Reading for a Quick Tutorial :

Mix the measured ingredients in the same order as the video.
1 Cup-Baking Soda
3/4 Cup- Vinegar
2 TBSP- Corn Syrup
1 Cup- Corn Starch
Pour the mixture into your ice tray and start creating your colors with the food coloring.
Make sure you mix the food coloring in well with the toothpicks. You can use a new toothpick for each color or use the same one for like colors.

Let it sit over night... Mine were a little wet in the afternoon of the next day. I just dabbed them dry with a paper towel.

These are my results of my Homemade Watercolors painted out :)

This was so fun and mess everyone should definitely give it a try!!!!

DEADLY SWEET-Brutus|Monroe Design Team Post

Good Afternoon !!! I'm here to share this fun card I made for the B|M Design Team. I love Serena Bee and her stamp set, her creepy-cute style is such an inspiration to me.  Here is how I made the card...

1. I stamped the cone, and then stamped over it with the topper. I colored in the images using the Brutus|Monroe Inks as a watercolor. I'll add a link below to Christopher Alan Designs YouTube Video on how to use the inks as watercolors. I fussy cut out the ice cream cone, inked the edges and  layered it  on a piece of coordinating card stock. I also fussy cut that, and inked the edges.
2. I stamped the "you are deadly sweet!" sentiment. fussy cut it and added it on a coordinating banner flag. I  inked the edges with a sponge dauber and Brutus|Monroe Premium Chalk Ink in OZ.
3. This is my favorite card layout because it's so easy. I always just use scraps and chop them to fit to my liking. After all my layers are adhered to my pre-made card base I add my image and sentiment using adhesive foam tape.
4. To finish the card I added some enamel dots from my stash.
Here is the link on the water color technique:
You can forward to 14:30 to see the watercoloring, or watch the whole thing because its a great card with other awesome Brutus|Monroe Products.

Water Color Card with Virgina Turtle

This is my latest Design Team project for Virgina Turtle!!!

What I used:
Virgina Turtle-Sassy B*tch Stamp Set
Watercolors (any will work)
Tuxedo Black- Momento Ink
Tim Holtz Water Color Paper
Recollections Shimmer card Base
Sequin
Wink Of Sella Pen
ATG

On a 4 X 5.25 sheet of watercolor paper I just blended watercolors to make this fun background.
I heat dried the paper and then stamped the sentiment.(better if you let air dried, helps with the curling of the paper)  Went over the sentiment with my Wink of Stella pen.  To make the splatter marks I just flicked the color off the brush. I added the finished  watercolor paper to the card base with my ATG. (make sure you use a tape to adhere the watercolor paper to help flatten any curling)
The sequin are just glued on with glue dots.
This whole card took about 5 minutes to make, it was very easy.
